gewaltfrei handeln - living nonviolence, learning peace ecumenically

The Ecumenical Service for a Ministry of Shalom (OeD) offers basic- and advanced-training courses as well as special seminars on non-violent/civil conflict resolution methods. OeD not only trains participants to become qualified peace workers, but also supports some of them working in projects in different parts of the world.

In these courses offered by OeD, participants acquire and broaden their knowledge and skills of non-violent conflict management, mediation, the spirituality of non-violence as well as of conflict theories. This qualification may enable them to work for peace, justice and the integrity of creation in their own country or abroad, as volunteers or professionals, on a long-term or short-term basis.

Carrying out practical trainings and supporting people working with conflict resolution methods is rooted in OeD’s ecumenical spirituality. However, there is also a political dimension to it: OeD serves as an idea broker triggering debates on peace issues and the implementation of these methods – within the Church and society in general. The organizational profile of OeD is unique as it combines professional skills with a politically engaged spirituality of non-violence.

OeD was co-founded by the Threshold Foundation and is one of its most important partners.

In order to maintain OeD’s financial base, Stiftung Schalomdiakonat was set up as a dependent foundation, managed by the Threshold Foundation.
